[Troop222All] Congratulations to the latest Troop 222 Eagle Scout Henry Hilton

Henry Hilton is an Eagle Scout – October 20th, 2014
Congratulations, Henry!

Henry Hilton became an Eagle Scout on Monday evening, October 20th, 2014, at the Palo Alto Boy Scout Service Center in an Eagle Scout Rank Board of Review. We congratulate Henry for reaching this significant milestone of his Scouting journey.

Henry joined Troop 222 in 2009. He began his scouting career as a 7th grader from Hillview Middle School. With Troop 222 he has earned 22 merit badges. His leadership positions within the Troop include Troop Guide, Assistant Patrol Leader, and Patrol Leader. He served as Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, working closely with Scoutmaster David Fichou and other Troop Leaders. He has attended many years of summer scout camp including Camp Hi-Sierra and Camp Royaneh.

He has participated in many Fifty Miler backpack trips with Troop 222, including Yosemite and Half Dome, and Philmont Scout Ranch in 2013.  This past summer Henry enjoyed the Emigrant Wilderness trek, which included his dad and two brothers. Among his many adventures with Troop 222, Henry considers white water rafting to be his most memorable scouting experience.

Henry’s Scout Leadership Service Project was to build raised planter boxes and install hardscaping in the Garden of Memory and Imagination at Menlo-Atherton High School. Last year as Co-Vice President of the Global Leaders, Henry helped Ms. Price, M-A Special Education teacher, to realize her dream of creating an educational garden outside her classroom. While the Eagle Project itself was limited to erecting planter boxes and hardscaping, Henry’s overall leadership included managing and coordinating many groups in creating the Garden of Memory and Imagination — which now includes stone pathways, benches, a fountain and ceramic artwork. Henry received a 2014 Principal’s Service Award for his contributions to the M-A community. With the help of many scouts, parents and friends, Henry appreciates all who contributed to this effort and wishes to thank Mr. Hage who advised him on the Eagle Scout Leadership Serivce component of this project .

A senior at Menlo-Atherton High School, Henry has been very active both academically and athletically. In addition to his leadership and involvement in Global Leaders since sophomore year, Henry played JV Lacrosse at M-A for two years, and is currently in his second year rowing crew for NorCal Rowing Club in Redwood City. In addition, Henry and a partner have been developing iPhone games since summer of 2012; he hopes to use this experience to capitalize on the power of games as a means to influence social change.
We thank Duke Evans (Troop 222 Advancement Chair) for coordinating Henrys Board of Review and also thank the members of the Board, which included Peggy Gluck (Redwood District Eagle Advancement Chair), David You (Redwood District Eagle Advancement Chair, and Duke Evans. David Fichou (Troop 222 Scoutmaster) provided the introduction for the candidate. Henry did a great job on this step in his journey to Eagle Scout. The board was very impressed with him and his thoughtful answers to their questions. As his scoutmaster, I was very proud of Mr Hilton and his stellar representation of Troop 222.

Henry has been supported by his father Skip, mother Maria, brothers Peter and David, along with his grandparents and uncles who all share a commitment to scouting.

Congratulations again, Henry!
