[Troop222All] Congratulations to the latest Troop 222 Eagle Scout! Mattias Lange-McPherson

Mattias Lange-McPherson is an Eagle Scout – March 17th, 2014
Congratulations, Mattias!

Eagle Scout Rank Board of Review. We congratulate Mattias for reaching this significant milestone of his Scouting journey.

Mattias joined Troop 222 in 2009 as an eighth grader. He has earned 24 merit badges. His leadership positions within the Troop include Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, Scribe and Assistant Senior Patrol Leader.  He became a member of the Order of the Arrow in 2013. He has attended several years of summer scout camp including Camp Oljato, Camp High Sierra, and Camp Royaneh.

He has participated in many Fifty Miler backpack trips with Troop 222, including the famous Mount Whitney trip during the summer of 2012 where bridges had to be built to cross several swollen rivers.  Mattias considers this his most memorable experience due to the problem solving and team development that was needed to cross the many rivers they encountered.

Mattias’ Scout Leadership Service Project was to install a water fountain in one of the parking lots at Windy Hill along Portola Road. In addition to installing the water fountain, running a water supply line, and a French drain, he built a ADA compliant pathway from the road to the water fountain. With the help of a select few scouts, his parents, and friends, he completed the site preparation and installation over the course of two weekends.  Ingo Lange advised him on his project.  He was also assisted by a Mid-Peninsula Open Space District ranger and the use of a bobcat with an auger attachment to dig the French drain.

Mattias is a Senior at Menlo-Atherton High School where he is very much involved in the technical side of theater productions for both the High School and Hillview Middle School.  He is also an employee with the Sequoia Union High School district and has worked many hours hanging from the rafters of the Performing Art Center setting up the lighting for many performances.

We thank Duke Evans (Troop 222 Advancement Chair) for coordinating Mattias’s Board of Review and also thank the members of the Board, which included Peggy Gluck (Redwood District Eagle Advancement Chair), David You (Redwood District Eagle Advancement Chair) Thomas Carhart, Ken Johnson, and Duke Evans. David Fichou (Troop 222 Scoutmaster) provided the introduction for the candidate. Mattias did a great job on this step in his journey to Eagle Scout. The board was very impressed with him and his thoughtful answers to their questions. As his scoutmaster, I was very proud of Mr. Lange-McPherson and his stellar representation of Troop 222.

Mattias has been supported by his father Ingo Lange, mother Lisa McPherson, younger brother Ian, and younger sister Claire.

Congratulations again, Mattias!
